Fighting Deadly Flu, Mexico Shuts Schools

Most of Mexico’s dead were young, healthy adults, and none were over 60 or under 3 years old, the World Health Organization said. That alarms health officials because seasonal flus cause most of their deaths among infants and bedridden elderly people, but pandemic flus — like the 1918 Spanish flu, and the 1957 and 1968 pandemics — often strike young, healthy people the hardest

And why has the CDC determined that they do not need to limit travel to Mexico??? Mexican officials have closed schools, museums and other public venues. Yet the US position is that we can still travel to Mexico ??? This is an H1 variant that has a history of causing pandemic illness. With the typical flu, the very young and the very old suffer the most… and most fatalities are in these groups. This variant is different. The dead have been young healthy adults.

Local control is achieved by limiting travel and by limiting people from co-mingling in large groups. What are the folks at the CDC thinking? You only get one chance to control something like this. I am not an alarmist… but this has the potential of becoming a very big problem, and I would like to know that my govt is looking out for my best interest… not the tourist revenue of a neighboring country.
